I shall be very pleased to welcome you all back to the Club on May 17th. I know how much many of you have missed the Club, as indeed have I.
While closed we have not been standing still. Several members have come forward with suggestions and assistance to improve the Club, including Alan, Colin, John, Michael, Sally and John Twitchen, together with John Robson our Bar Manager and Karen at the bar. Thank you all.
The Committee hopes to have our new patio furniture in place on May17th. The replacement of the outside seating was well overdue. I do so hope the weather will be kind to us all.
I have some excellent news. Committee member Judith Canham has come forward to say that she wishes to donate a defibrillator machine and I have accepted her generous offer on behalf of the Club.
The charity bottle on the bar, as you will know, was set up to buy a defibrillator. In the light of Judith's generous offer, may I suggest we now make the charity bottle for Prostate Cancer UK, with the proceeds going to Southend Hospital? Any comments would be appreciated.
Due to the sad, sudden death of our Secretary and acting Treasurer David Shaer, I have asked Helen Maddock from our committee to take up the role of acting Secretary. I have also co-opted John Spencer as acting Treasurer.
We took action quickly in view of the urgency to deal with Club business, including applying for grants that the Government and Southend Council have made available.
May I say that, owing to Helen and John being on board, we have been successful in our applications. Sincere thanks are due to them both.
Since the start of 2020 sadly we have lost a number of long-standing members, including, most recently, David Shaer and we will celebrate their lives when we are able to do so.
Looking forward to greeting you all.
